The "Winterisation Kherson" line in the foundation's 2024 expenditure table (p. 23); description on pp. 10-11.
ICF "Friends' Hands"
Procurement, assembly and delivery of the kits to families in two communities (annual report 2024, pp. 10-11).
Kherson oblast was hit twice: by the hostilities and by the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in June 2023, which flooded settlements and destroyed homes. Families with children who stayed in the oblast or were displaced within it were heading into winter without warm clothes.
What we did
With Plan International’s support, the foundation delivered 250 warm clothing kits to children and adolescents from vulnerable families affected by the hostilities and from displaced families with children in the Kherson and Chornobaivka communities. Each kit: a winter jacket, a warm tracksuit, socks, mittens and a sleeping blanket. The recipients were 133 boys and 117 girls (annual report 2024, pp. 10-11). In the foundation’s 2024 expenditure table, “Winterisation Kherson” carries 2,086,164.00 UAH (p. 23).
Context: the first response in Kherson oblast in 2023
Already in the summer of 2023, after the dam was destroyed, the foundation asked the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund and the WASH cluster to extend its assistance programme to Kherson oblast. Coordinated with the NGO “Kherson League of Social Workers” and “Hromada UA”, it delivered 1,846 cleaning kits, 2,850 family hygiene kits, 2,190 water filters and 40 kits for people with special needs, reaching 7,434 people (annual report 2023, pp. 46-47). That was a separate project with a different donor; it is mentioned here to show how the foundation knew the region’s needs.
